Leaf Sketch

I have been looking at alot of leaves lately, coming up with references and ideas for a client’s illustration.
Just by chance, yesterday i went for a walk to the beach and found these really cute leaves, i loved the shapes and colours of them, so i decided to do a sketch of one to study how the viens, and stem etc all fitted together. I think its wonderful how you can find inspiration, it really shows you need to get out and about rather than being stuck inside in your studio!

I used my new conte pencil for this one, its a H so its hard which means i can get a bit of detail in, i really liked it. I have been  struggling with my materials at my life drawing group,for me for a while, i just havent found something that works for me.  The other conte pencils are quite soft which means i cant get the details as much and smudge more. This one has the balance of both! Loving it,
