Seeing Sketch

Start off the new year with an ear

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

SKETCH:

The new year deserves an ear and a sketch, this is this morning’s effort that happened over coffee.

I have said every year for the past 3 that I am going to sketch more (like everyday) but life has often gotten in the way and it just hasn’t happened.

This year I am seeing myself and my art in a different light, and at the moment I could say yes I am going to do it BUT I am not confident that I will definately be able to commit.

So I am mulling over things at the moment taking my time with   my plan for 2010 and enjoying the moment.

Friday Life Sketch Group

blog_pic_040

Today was my weekly sketch group, i didn’t attend last week so i made sure i got back on track to attend this week again.

Today i just felt like drawing faces, i really enjoy the standing poses at the beginning which are only 2-5 mins. In the longer sitting poses, i tend not to like drawing the full figure and focus on details and getting the lines and curves right. Overall, I still am struggling with proportions but its less and less obvious now. Its becoming easier each time i go, its a great group we have a good laugh :) Driving back home its the most relaxed i have been all week.

The good thing about sharing parenting responsibilities is that you tend to get a weekend “off” every now and then, (its about one of the only good things about it) –   i am taking all the positives i can get at the moment, so this weekend i am looking forward to spending the weekend on some much needed art / studio time and cleaning the house top to bottom uninterrupted. Bliss!

Sketch Group – Life Drawing

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

Here are a couple from this mornings sketch group. These are 20min sketches, its funny i really get messy with these i found some other pastels in my box and used them today, rather than pencils. It was messy and fun :)

It’s so funny how one sketch you can be “seeing” every proportion correctly then the next pose you get it all wrong – i am thinking it might be because you zone out not concentrating on the “process”. Whatever it is its so interesting the whole thing.

I know i kinda have been missing in action the last 10 days or so. I think i needed a breather after the mammoth task that was this website development. Since then tho,I have also done another website for the graphic design side of my business, this time i avoided wordpress all together, as its not the kind of site that I really need to update too often hence i am easily able to do the site in php, html css -(for those of you who are into websites).

I mostly happy with the way it came out. I am not a funky over the top designer, i know alot about handcoding and design etc.  so my designs tend to be less funky and more about conveying an message  as well as being functional and easy to manage. Anywho that site is done woot! Another thing off the list, I  still have bit to tweak on both sites but i have also been working on clients work this week so it has to be put aside for a little while (i have 3 website developments to do – funny for a person who has decided not do too many websites anymore) but i do enjoy it and happy for the work atm. Artwise, i have attended 3 life drawing classes in the past week and absolutely loving it. It is something i have wanted to do for a while as i know it will force me to progress as an artist and illustrator and i would dearly love to be able to draw people so this is an important one to dedicate myself to. I was thrilled to discover a local sketch group that i could attend which suited me timewise in terms of managing my boys.

Anyway.. the first two sessions were pretty poor effort (not shown here), i had a fabulous instructor on wednesday which progressed things along tremendously so in yesterdays session it all moved alot better (the pics here are from yesterdays session), it took me a while to warm up but but in the end i managed to get the proportions reasonable. I have a real struggle with legs, the whole bottom half i just tend to get completely out of whack.

This morning i spent about 3 hours taking various photos for future still life works with fruit etc. I have exhausted all of my current materials and needed some new inspiration and this did just the trick for both.  I hope i can get to some of this soon just never seem to be enough hours in the day.

So, finally for today I want to wish  all the mums a very Happy Mothers Day for tomorrow, i was woken this morning by my 5.0 asking whether it was mothers day yet. LOL … i am looking forward to yummy coffee  in the morning and hugs from the boys. Entertaining for lunch with the family having a lovely seafood lunch.
Have a great day everyone and enjoy the little things they are what count ! Did i say entertaining ? sigh i better go clean the house !!!

Sketchbook 2009

Monday, April 20th, 2009

Over the past few weeks i have also started something new, My Sketchbook 2009, which resides in a Moleskin book given to me by a dear friend i have been too scared to actually draw in :)

20_4_09_web.jpg

Here is my first sketch from this book. The inspiration was from some pears that i bought at the shops, i actually meant to do a coloured pencil piece with them as they had wonderful colours but i just didn’t get to it in time.

I hope to do many more of these in the future as drawings and prints to sell as well as in my sketchbook. They are great fun to do but take a while !! :)
