Its been a fun new way to work with pencils and all of my art supplies amd to practice drawing faces.

A Fabulous little warm up for me for the beginning of the year I thought I would share with you all. These were the roses that I bought on Pink Rose Day, I blogged about and supported last year. (wow it feels weird saying that it seems like it was just the other day).

“Strangers in the Night” – I don’t know that I will keep this title, but for some reason when I saw these two Roses that famous song came to mind.

I am a bit embarrassed to say this has been my first coloured pencil artwork  on paper (other than ones for demos and commissions and experiments ) that I have done for a while, and for that reason I wanted to do something quick an fun and just kick start me off to the new year.

This is an 8X10″ (20X25cms) work, done with Prismacolor and Polychromos and Derwent Colorsoft pencils, and I have use Zest-it in the background particularly.

As this is a work in progress you will be seeing this one again.

BTW – If your wondering what is going on with my website design atm, i appologise I know it needs work and I am delaying a redo as I need to make some decisions first and I don’t want to run with something until I have a good feeling of where I want to go .. so until I am there I am “sitting on it” and you all have to perservere. Please just ignore the design and look at the artwork for now : )

Zest-it has also been advertised recently in some of the local art magazines or on overseas websites if your a pencil enthusiast.

It’s a little difficult to come by here in Australia and I often get asked where to buy it which has happened alot recently!

Sharing my completed art journal page for this week.

Last week was coloured pencils (right up my alley) in the “Supplies Me” workshop I am doing with Jane Davenport.

This whole thing is about letting go being free and experimenting with different materials and learning new skills and hence the “Be Free” in the drawing. We learned about drawing faces and backs and bottoms and all about pencils. It’s so fun just enjoying the creativity these aren’t supposed to be works of art just a bit of fun.

I love this girl though I think she will be popping up in a few of my future works.

I mainly used coloured pencils on my page which was primed with medium.
It doesn’t allow me to get on as many layers as i am used to with the coloured pencil but does allow me to use other materials like the inktense pencil and a bit of watercolour in the backround. I used Zest-it to blend some of the pencil which was interesting normally the Zest-it blends all of the layers and kinda soaks right into the layers of the paper. As I had the medium on it really just kinda stayed on the top of the paper and didnt blend in as much went to more like paint. The love heart under the works you can see went quite vibrant. I also noticed a difference on the pages on the left where i had Gesso on the previous page to on the right where i didnt, you can see the difference in the way it blends and how many layers i could get on.

Heaps o fun, this week is watercolour week and I already have found a new way of working that I have been searching for, that is quick and easy and vibrant and absolutely loving!!!

I have plans for two fabulous full day workshops coming up and I would like to invite you to come along!

I am thinking of 1 workshop for beginners to learn coloured pencils techniques you don’t have to know how to draw, but this will be for those who would like to learn to create coloured pencil art which looks like a painting. Instead of the usual 3 hour stint though this will be all day event (If you have been to one of my workshops before we would have covered most of this but not in as much detail) but this would be for beginners in coloured pencil art.

The other workshop I am thinking of doing a workshop for intermediate to advanced coloured pencil artists, basically for people who have attended my other workshops and would like to take it further… Perhaps you would like to cover working on drafting film? Maybe a whole day dedicated to the colouredpencil process where we work on 1 particular drawing, and/ or you can bring along your own.
Or how about a subject Portraits or Still life?

Or while I have your attention are you just up for a bit of creative fun ? Are you looking to get out of the house, spend the day having some fun, reigniting your creativity and for more of a “fun” day of drawing not for artists specifically where I have a bunch of little activities to get the creative juices flowing?

I need your help! Tell me what you would like!

At the moment I have two dates booked Saturday the 29th October & Wednesday 2nd Nov (more to come if i get the numbers) at the Peninsula Community Center at McMasters Road Woy Woy. The time would be all day 9.30am to 2.30pm on the saturday and 9.30am to 2pm on the Wednesday.

I need your help deciding which workshop to do on which day and what you would like covered. You tell me – there is No commitment at this stage and details will follow but please send me your desires art@belindalindhardt.com.au.
